Banh Ngon
About This Spot
Stepping into Banh Ngon, you’re met with the quiet comfort of a small, family-run spot where the rhythm of the day slows down just enough to savor the simple joys of good food. Located on a bustling corner of Sargent Avenue, this takeout-focused deli lets the inviting scents of sizzling barbecue pork and fresh herbs do the welcoming for you. There’s a warmth here, not just from the cooking but from the care woven into every interaction and every sandwich wrapped up with a touch of precision and tradition.
The pace at Banh Ngon is casual, a steady beat that encourages both quick lunches and leisurely meals spent waiting out the day’s tempo. The atmosphere feels genuine—unhurried yet bustling, a spot where locals return not only for the familiar tastes but for the sense of ease that comes with knowing you’re supporting a close-knit, hardworking kitchen. It’s less about elaborate presentation and more about thoughtful portions that fill you up without overwhelming, reflecting the kind of generosity that often shines brightest when meals are made with heart and practiced hands.
On the menu, the star turns naturally to classic Vietnamese street fare: sandwiches that balance savory cold cuts and herbal brightness in every bite, fresh salad and spring rolls wrapped neatly like little gifts, and vermicelli bowls that invite you to slow down and explore layers of texture and flavor. Each dish feels like a discovery—not rushed or overly refined—but honest and straightforward, echoing the vibrant streets of Vietnam through its aromatic, balanced simplicity.
What stands out beyond the food is the welcoming spirit that lingers long after you leave, the kind you notice when a spontaneous gesture, like a bowl of soup shared unexpectedly, feels as natural as a neighborly hello. Banh Ngon is a quiet hub for those who know, a destination cherished for its unfussy, authentic approach to Vietnamese cooking, and the genuine human moments that surround every order.

We are spoiled for great banh mi in Winnipeg, but this place has become my hands-down favourite. I've never had a bad sandwich here. I especially love the tofu.

Banh Ngon is hands down my FAVOURITE Vietnamese spot to order from in Winnipeg! Though they only offer takeout, not only is the food consistently amazing, but it’s also the most affordable place I’ve found AND the portions are perfect! You actually get so much for what you pay for, & it tastes SO GOOD. After finally trying everything on their menu/fridge display, I can proudly say: not a single item on the menu disappoints. I wish I could pick a favourite, but honestly I'd end up listing everything on the menu anyway Their banh mis, vermicelli bowls, tapioca dumplings, sticky rice dumplings, rice cakes, and nem chua are all on the top of my most ordered list! 1000000/10. These words & ratings don't even do justice to how much I appreciate this local gem. Winnipeg is SO lucky to have them. Only downside I can think of is they don’t offer delivery through any apps but honestly, it’s worth the trip every. single. time.

My flight was cancelled and I couldn’t think of a better place to spend a few hours and feast while waiting for another flight. The food was delicious, with generous portions and it was bargain priced. It’s a small family run business that felt good to support. They treated me like family, even bringing an off-menu complementary soup. I washed the sandwiches and other food down with coffee and bubble tea. I really miss this place and don’t know when or if I’ll ever be back in Winnipeg but I am sure if I was to go back, I’d stop here.

It's really a great hole in the whole Banh Mi place. I stop here most weekends and I never regret it. The vermicelli dish is also great too.

Great bargain for Vietnamese street food you can’t find anywhere else in Winnipeg yet. Love their authentic sticky rice dumplings & vermicelli bowl. Their delicious vermicelli has plenty of meats and it’s $8.00 while other place I would pay double or more for almost similar quality. I also got tapioca dumplings but it’s not as authentic, generally good taste. Would come back to try other items on the menu. Definitely recommend!!!

Stumbled upon it today and it was literally life changing. Haven't had a vermicelli bowl in about 2 years since the last one cost $19.50 with a tip. I can't afford that so stopped eating it. This place has one for $9, probably the cheapest I have ever seen no joke. Was delicious and the owner? was friendly and service very fast. Had an ice coffee as well and total was $13.30 or so. Will go back regularly from now on. Feeling lucky and blessed this fine Friday!!
